DeSOTO - A high-speed police chase in DeSoto ended in a deadly crash.

Terry Arthur, 45, died Friday morning after police say he ran a red light and crashed into a cement truck at a high speed.

Arthur was a burglary suspect, who was pulled over around 5:30 a.m. Friday. DeSoto police say during the stop, he resisted arrest and tried to take an officer's weapon.

"The driver became combative, he resisted the officers instructions and reaches into the back of the truck to possibly get a weapon," said DeSoto Police Corporal Melissa Franks.

Dash-camera video obtained by News 8 shows Arthur and the officer wrestling in the street before the suspect gets loose and runs back to his truck.

The officer is seen trying to use his Taser, but it was unsuccessful.

Arthur led police on a high-speed chase into Glenn Heights.

He is seen on video driving at speeds greater than 100 miles per hour and running red lights, until he slams into the path of a cement truck at Bear Creek Road.

"It was a big boom," said witness Martin Padron

The fully loaded cement truck flipped over and crushed the speeding truck.

The driver of the truck received minor injuries. Arthur died at the hospital from his injuries.

Police records show he had a lengthy history of committing similar crimes.

DeSoto police defended their chase, saying Arthur needed to be stopped.

"We deemed at that point the driver was more of a danger to the public were he not taken into custody, than the chase itself would pose to the public," Franks said.
