Former Dallas Cowboys star Deion Sanders has been charged with assault following further investigation by Prosper police into a domestic disturbance on Monday.
And now, his wife, Pilar Sanders, is accusing Prosper police of botching the case.
Police detained Pilar Sanders on Monday, charged her with assault, and requested an emergency protection order against her. She was jailed overnight.
Now, by charging Deion Sanders, her attorney says the department is backtracking.
On Wednesday, Ms. Sanders' attorney Peter Schulte filed an emergency motion to drop the protective order. He said the arresting officer made no mention to the judge who granted the protective order that Mr. Sanders would be charged, too.
Shulte said if the judge had had that information, he may not have issued the protective order. "Based on what I've seen, based on the experience level, based on evidence that I've heard that there's a close relationship with several of the police officers with Mr. Sanders, it takes the impartiality of the police out of the equation," he said.
Our calls to the City of Prosper seeking comment on the case were not immediately returned on Wednesday afternoon.
Pilar Sanders' attorney said her motion to vacate the protective order could be heard in the next seven to 10 days.
