DALLAS — A Wilmer-Hutchins High School student died on Monday after he was severely beaten over the weekend.

Troy Causey, 18, played basketball for the school, located within the Dallas Independent School District.

According to a police report, witnesses said they saw Causey in an argument Sunday night with at least one suspect. The argument turned physical and a witness told police a suspect hit Causey in the face, knocking him unconscious.

The incident happened in front of Causey's home in the 6300 block of Cinnamon Oaks in Dallas.

The teenager was rushed to an area hospital with a fractured skull and brain swelling, the report said.  Dallas County's medical examiner said Causey died Monday, but the exact cause of the death hasn't been determined.

Friends and classmates turned to social media to share their condolences. Many described Causey as a "big brother".

Police have not said whether or not any arrests have been made in connection with the case. According to the police report, the suspects left the scene on foot after the fight, but no descriptions were given.
