DALLAS -- A man is dead after police officers shot and killed him on a South Dallas street.

Around 10:20 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to the 4900 block of Wadsworth Drive near Great Trinity Forest Way in East Oak Cliff, responding to a call about 33-year-old Rodney Hodge walking down the street and firing a weapon.

Hodge's family tells News 8 he was at a relative's home for a birthday party. He got a phone call and began acting strange.

"I don't know where he got [the gun] from, because we was all just sitting there laughing and he didn't have it. He must have left and came back with it when he got the phone call," Hodge's sister, Shantae Johnson, said.

Dallas officers say Hodge started pointing his weapon at people nearby. Some of his neighbors even hid inside a car.

Police tried to negotiate with Hodge for about an hour to put down his weapon. When Hodge started walking toward the officers, three of them fired their weapons.

Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and reviewing dash cam video.

There were no other injuries. The three officers involved will be placed on administrative leave as the department investigates the incident.
