Gaming house robbery
DALLAS — Three people were arrested and two others got away after police surrounded an East Dallas "gaming house" on Monday evening.
Police spokesman Warren Mitchell said one of the suspects knocked on the door of the building in the 4700 block of Samuell Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. seeking entry. Two other suspects, believed to be accomplices, were already inside and vouched for the third, Mitchell said.
When an employee of the gaming house unlocked the door, he produced a handgun and ordered the employee to a back room, where he was tied up.
Meanwhile, other patrons of the business ran out and called police.
Dozens of police units responded to the scene, and the SWAT team was called out after it was determined that suspects could still be at the location.
"After a short standoff, SWAT regained control of the establishment without any injuries," Warren said in a written statement.
Three men were taken into custody and two others were able to escape.
Traffic in the area near Timberlawn Hospital was shut down for several hours during the police operation.
