DALLAS — A veteran Dallas police officer has been placed on administrative leave after shooting and seriously wounding a car theft suspect in Southeast Dallas on Monday.

In a statement, police said an independent witness saw Kelvion Walker, 19, in the front passenger seat of the carjacked vehicle with both arms in the air when he was shot by Officer Amy Wilburn.

"Officer Wilburn perceived Walker to be an imminent threat, drew her weapon, and discharged it once, striking him," the police statement said.

Police said no weapon was found at the scene in the 9500 block of Military Parkway.

Walker remains in critical condition. Police said an accomplice who was driving the vehicle remains at large.

Police said investigators are reviewing dash-cam video of the incident.
