DALLAS - A Dallas cab driver was arrested this weekend after witnesses reported that he pulled his cab over to the side of the road and stabbed a patron in the neck.
Larry Darnell Miles, 56, of Dallas, is being held at Lew Sterrett Jail, accused of driving while intoxicated and aggravated assault. His bail has been set at $25,000.
The stabbing victim, Eason Price Maykus, 24, of Southlake, and six others got into Miles’ Yellow Checker taxi van near McKinney Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a Dallas police report. Maykus was treated at the scene by Dallas Fire Rescue and went to Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine on his own.
Witnesses told police that Miles was eating a McDonald’s cheeseburger while driving erratically and speeding. He became confrontational when his passengers tried to give him directions to their destination.
The driver stopped abruptly, one witness reported, and he and Maykus started to argue.
The van stopped for a final time in the 2600 block of Cole Avenue. As the driver walked around the back of the van to the rear passenger door, witnesses said, Maykus took the keys from the ignition. He told police he did so to ensure that everyone could get out of the cab.
A confrontation ensued. Miles lunged at Maykus and stabbed him in the throat with a small brown-handled knife, witnesses reported.
Police found an empty bottle of New Amsterdam gin, an empty 24-ounce beer can and a full bottle of gin in the cab.
