Dallas County Sheriff searching for suspect in hit-and-run death

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in finding the driver of an SUV that struck and killed a 44-year-old man and sped away. 

Sheriff spokeswoman Carmen Castro said the man was walking across the eastbound lanes of U.S. 175 and Masters Dr. in Pleasant Grove between 2:15 a.m. and 2:25 a.m. on Feb. 3. He attempted to cross the street at Masters when he was hit by a driver who never stopped. Castro said police found amber-colored marker lenses that covered the car's headlights at the scene. 

Surveillance footage and evidence from the location points to the car being a dark-colored 1988-1993 General Motors SUV. Castro notes the vehicle will have "extensive" damage to its front right side as well as its hood. 

The man was identified as 44-year-old James Cooper.
