Corsicana police shot and killed a man with a gun early Saturday morning.

According to a statement issued by Chief Randy Bratton's office, officers were dispatched to the Cottonwood Trailer Park at 1:30 a.m. to investigate a man who had fired a weapon in the air. Witnesses told police he might be suicidal.

Officers ordered the man to drop his handgun but he refused — first pointing the weapon at his head and then taking aim at a police officer and firing more than one shot, according to the official statement.

Two officers returned fire, killing the 21-year-old suspect. His name was not released.

The officers were not injured. Police declined to identify them. They will be subject to a routine internal investigation and have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Texas Rangers will investigate the circumstances of the shooting.
