DALLAS –– Hours after the Texas Department of Public Safety added a 51-year-old convicted rapist who escaped a Dallas halfway house to its most wanted sex offender list, he was taken into custody in Oklahoma.

The state offered $3,000 to anyone who could help point authorities to Robert Charles Grunsfeld, 51, who cut off his ankle monitor on Friday and slipped out of the West Dallas facility where he had been ordered to stay.

Gunsfeld was captured Monday in McAlester, Oklahoma.

The state described him as a “sexually violent predator at high risk to reoffend.” He was convicted of aggravated sexual assault once and twice for sexual assault.

In 2010, he was ordered to live at the halfway house he escaped from after he attempted to kidnap an adult to sexually assault, the state notes. He has used a stun gun on his victims, handcuffed them and sprayed tear gas in their eyes while he raped them, the state says.
