DALLAS — A recent vandalism spree across the Oak Lawn section of Dallas was the hot topic at Sunday church services.

Someone spray-painted the number "666" on the Legacy of Life Monument and at a number of other locations last weekend — including a Dallas North Tollway overpass and the Cathedral of Hope, a predominantly gay and lesbian church.

"Jesus would not respond with anger or violence, but say, 'Respond with your better self; with mercy; with compassion,'" said the Rev. Jim Mitulski, pastor at Cathedral of Hope.

Dallas police are investigating the vandalism as a hate crime. There are no reports of an arrest.
