DALLAS — A 46-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night following a shooting that left an eight-year-old boy in critical condition.
Police charged Brian Cloninger with injury to a child.
D.J. Maiden was hospitalized Tuesday night after suffering a gunshot wound to the face at a Northeast Dallas apartment complex.
Justin Yancy said he saw the eight-year-old victim playing "tag" with his friends at the Fox Hollow apartments at 9450 Royal Lane.
"The next thing I know, I heard a loud 'bang,' and he ran around the corner with a mouth full of blood," Yancy said.
Investigating officers were led to a nearby vehicle, where Clolinger was taken into custody.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, Dallas police said D.J. was listed in critical but stable condition at Children's Medical Center after undergoing surgery.
D.J. was shot in the jaw, which is now wired shut. He is expected to remain in the hospital for two weeks as he recovers.
Cloninger was booked into Lew Sterret Jail on a $2.2-million bond.
Authorities did not reveal a motive behind the shooting.
