HOUSTON—A man is in the hospital and five men are on the run after committing three armed robberies at food marts in northwest Harris County late Wednesday.

Lisa was a witness and does not want her last name revealed.

“It didn’t seem real,” she said. “I had a gun at my back and I was shoved up against a machine.”

Lisa and her boyfriend, Daniel, were at the Lakewood Food Mart in the 13700 block of Cedar Point Drive when five men pulled up in a gray four-door Toyota pickup truck.

They could be seen on surveillance video terrorizing the clerk and customers.

“Basically they all had guns,” said an unidentified customer who had a gun pointed at his head. “You know you try not to make eye contact with these type of people because if you do, they know that you know who they are and they’ll shoot you,” he said.

But Lisa said her boyfriend would not have it and took pictures of the truck and distracted the gunmen. The next thing she knew, he was being shot in the shoulder and stomach in the lot outside the store.

“He wanted to make sure that they got caught,” she said. “He thought that we got hurt in there or something. He was trying to protect me.”

A nearby nurse rushed to his aid as the suspects sped off. Investigators believe the men targeted at least one other business and may have fingerprints.

Lisa told WFAA sister station KHOU 11 News that Daniel is expected to make a full recovery. She also said that his pictures are being shared with investigators and also captured a license plate number.
