An attack on a Mesquite playground last month is now being called a hate crime, according to the North Texas Crime Commission.
Sondra Scarber is still recovering from injuries suffered in the February 17 assault.
She said a man yelled anti-gay epithets, then threw her to the ground and kicked her in the face after asked him to stop his son from bullying her partner's four-year-old son.
There's a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the man's arrest.
