ARLINGTON — One person is in the hospital after a shooting in East Arlington late Saturday afternoon.
Arlington Police said it started around five o'clock as a fight outside a strip mall in the 900 block of East Arkansas Lane.
That fist fight escalated into gunfire. One person was wounded and taken to Medical Center of Arlington for treatment. The patient is expected to survive.
There have been no arrests.
"I see a couple of fist-fighting [sic] before the shot," said Uday Upreti, the manager of a neighboring business. "And then people running here and there."
Upreti shared surveillance video with News 8 that vaguely shows a lot of activity that he identifies as the initial fight. Upreti says it is clear when the shots were fired, because "people were running."
In the video, several people are seen running from the scene; one person even ran toward the security camera.
Witnesses said the victim was taken in a red car to Medical Center of Arlington. A red car can be seen pulling up in the parking lot on the surveillance video.
"I saw couple guys ran into the red car, and they just ran off," Upreti said.
Police were seen combing through what may have been the same red vehicle in the hospital's parking lot near the emergency room about 45 minutes after the shooting was dispatched.
The Arlington police Gang Unit was at the scene of the shooting Saturday night looking for any clues into what happened... why it happened... and who was responsible.
