GARLAND - Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 31-year-old male after recovering dozens of stolen guitars, which were signed by celebrities and were to be sold to raise money for a charity.
Sixty-three of the 86 guitars, which were stolen on Christmas Eve from Uncle Bob's Self Storage on Broadway Boulevard in Garland, were recovered by police after they received several tips about the break-in, Garland police reported Monday.
Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Robert Allison Davis and are also searching for 31-year-old Jason Bruce, who they call a person of interest.
The guitars were stored at Bob's Self Storage by Brian Hughes, who takes the instruments and has them signed by stars such as country singer Taylor Swift and stock car driver Tony Stewart. Once signed, the guitars are sold in an auction to raise money for Friends of Purtis Creek State Park, a charity Hughes helped start. Among other things, the charity sponsors activities for children at the park, which is located near Eustace.
The total value of the stolen guitars were estimated to be worth at lest $70,000.
While 63 of the instruments were found by police, authorities said they believe the remaining guitars were given away as Christmas presents to people that police have not been able to identify.
Both Davis and Bruce have arrest records and may be driving a 1999 Dodge pickup with black primer and a Texas license plate 2PRD30. Anyone with information on the location of either man or the remaining guitars is asked to call 972-272-TIPS.
