ARCOLA, Texas -- One person was killed and two others were injured when shots were fired inside a crowded restaurant in Arcola, police said.
The shooting happened during a fight inside a taqueria on FM 521 at Highway 6 around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Arcola Police Department.
Police said there were about 30 people inside when two men got into a fight, and one of them pulled a gun. The suspect opened fire, shooting and killing the other man. Police said the suspect then shot the victim’s father twice.
One of the bullets ricocheted and hit a woman’s foot.
The suspect then fled the scene, police said.
“Nothing like this has happened in the last seven years since I’ve been here,” said Police Chief David Tezeno. “It’s the first time we’ve had an actual shooting like this, in this particular area.”
The son, who was 31 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. His father was sent to the hospital in stable condition. The woman who was shot in the foot was expected to be okay.
Police said they are confident they will be able to track down the suspect and a possible accomplice. They’re reviewing witness statements as well as surveillance video from inside the restaurant.
The victims’ identities have not been released, but the mother of the victim said he will be buried in Mexico. The young man moved to the United States nearly 20 years ago.
