Man killed in drug-related shooting at Dallas apartment

DALLAS – Four people were shot, one fatally, early Thursday morning when a gunman opened fire at an apartment complex in Northeast Dallas near Garland.  

The violence erupted at the Aspen Chase Apartments near the LBJ Freeway and Ferguson Rd. at about 12:30 a.m. According to an incident report, the victim allowed the suspect to enter the apartment for an apparent drug transaction. 

Soon, the suspect opened fire. The victim, identified as Robert McGowans, 57, exited his apartment and died just outside the front door. The victims, a man and two women, were taken to an area hospital. They were not identified.

Police were still searching for the shooter Thursday morning.
