Oncor's "advanced meter" dispenses with electromechanical dials to measure power usage and instead relies on an all-electronic display that can also send results back to the electric provider and to the consumer.

GRAND PRAIRIE - Another community meeting between customers with expensive electric bills and Oncor is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Grand Prairie's City Council Chambers.

After receiving pricey electric bills over the last few months, Trina Hall helped organize the meeting. Representatives from Oncor will be there to answer questions, as will Rep. Kirk England, his office confirmed.

For weeks, hundreds of people have complained that their electricity usage and charges has surged since Oncor installed digital smart meters. Oncor blames the colder than normal winter weather.

The Texas Public Utility Commission agreed to conduct independent testing Thursday of the new meters and their software, but stopped short of requests for a moratorium.

Smart Utility Reform Citizens, a grass roots group concerned with smart meters, also plans to attend the Grand Prairie meeting Saturday morning.

The City Council Chambers is located at 317 College Street in Grand Prairie.
