DALLAS - Big changes for drivers who take the Dallas North Tollway. The North Texas Tollway Authority will begin converting the highway to a cashless system.
Signs along the tollway are warning drivers of the change, advising them that "CASHLESS ROADWAY WORK BEGINS JUNE 21," which was Monday. The first phase is focused on an area between Interstate 625 and Highway 121.
The NTTA said the change should speed things up for drivers.
Drivers have been asked to slow down and stay alert as crews work to remove the toll booths. Lane-changes will be ongoing. The booths will be replaces with overhead structure that registers the toll electronically. Drivers who have TollTags versus ZipCash will save 50 percent.
The work is scheduled to wrap up on July 1, 2011.
