Maytag is recalling approximately 1.7 million dishwashers that can catch fire.
The recall includes dishwashers with a plastic tub, sold from February 2006 through April 2010, under the Maytag, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Amana, Admiral, Performa by Maytag, and Crosley brands.
There had been a dozen reports of electrical problems that led to fires and damage.
Consumers can get a free in-home repair, or, in some cases, rebates for a new dishwasher.
