DALLAS - In celebration of the completion of Phase II of DART's Green Line project, the transit service is holding a "Super Saturday," which will allow riders to get a sneak peak of the new stations, which officially opens Monday.

The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at six stations along the Green Line and will include free rides and various foods and entertainment at each station.

The newly completed leg of the Green Line stretches from Pleasant Grove to the south and Farmers Branch to the north.

The 28-mile Green Line expansion that includes 20 stations is supposed to give North Texans easier access between downtown Dallas, the Design District, the Medical District and Dallas Love Field. It is also the longest stretch of light rail nationwide.

It is also expected to speed up development around the new stations, which is something yet to be seen as The Dallas Morning News reported Friday morning. The leg of the Green Line cost $1.8 billion, but will make its debut with only one new apartment complex, The Maple Springs apartments, to open up around the line. The complex was built near the Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Station.

Real estate agents and developers blame the poor economy, but say they expect the new Green Line will in fact spur development as early as next year.

Among the stations where the preview celebration will take place are the Buckner Station at Buckner Boulevard and Elam Road, the Lawnview Station at Lawnview Avenue and Scyene Road, the Inwood/Love Field Station at the southwest corner of Inwood Road and Denton Drive, the Royal Lane Station north of Royal Lane on the east side of Denton Drive, the Farmers Branch Station just south of Valley View Lane on the east side of Denton Drive and the Downtown Carrollton Station at Belt Line Road and Broadway Street.
