Trees can add beauty to the landscaping of any home, but what do you do when you have a dead tree on your property?

Well-tended trees are not only attractive, they can add up to 15-percent to your home's value.

But trees can die, either from neglect, or storm damage. Signs of a dead tree include poor leaf development or discoloration on the tree trunk.

The folks at Angie's List say that's when it's time to seek out a professional arborist or tree service.

"If a tree is structurally damaged whether it's split or something of that nature every once in a while there are things we can do like pinning a tree together with rods, putting cables in trees, lightening branches and things of that nature, those are sometimes options to try and save the tree, " says certified arborist Stephen Courchaine.

The cost for professional tree removal will depend on if the tree is close to fencing, or wires.

Gather estimates from at least three services before you decide who to hire. And check credentials and make sure they're insured.
