DALLAS ― Forget the change. Electronic tolling is coming for the Dallas North Tollway.
The North Texas Tollway Authority just released its plans. It will be rough in the short term ― particularly at some exit ramps which will be temporarily narrowed to one lane ― but in the end, it will be worth it.
The idea is to make them all look like the Wycliff Plaza which is all electronic ― no booths, no delays.
It's a $40 million project, and it will be done before the year is out. The NTTA said it will try to ease the impact of construction by doing most of the work during off-peak hours.
The benefit to drivers may be a faster and safer commute. Cars will no longer be weaving in and out of traffic from downtown all the way up to Frisco.
The benefit to the NTTA is faster access to revenue on the 31 mile long Dallas North Tollway ― its most profitable road.
