Analysts have predicted it; now US Airways is moving from just "exploring its options" for bankrupt competitor American Airlines to taking action.
Bloomberg reports that the Phoenix-based airline is now talking to some of the creditors of American's parent company AMR Corp. about a takeover plan.
Talk of a takeover is getting a lot of attention in North Texas. American Airlines and American Eagle employ thousands here. They are investing in renovations at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and the two carriers make up 85 percent of all flights at D/FW — that's more than 1,500 flights a day.
Other experts forecast that if a merger were to materialize between US Airways and American, US Airways would adopt the better-known American Airlines brand, and would likely keep the corporate office in Fort Worth.
