The value may be hard to see initially for US Airways to merger with much larger American Airlines. However, a look at their hub cities shows how it could benefit both.

American has hubs in Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Miami and New York. US Airways is concentrated in Phoenix, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington and has some traffic in Pittsburgh.

Backers say because they're concentrated in different cities, the proposed merger would be a win-win.
