Dollar mixed after drop in unemployment claims

NEW YORK (AP) — The dollar is mixed against other currencies after the number of Americans seeking unemployment aid last week fell to the lowest level in five years.

The Labor Department says that weekly unemployment benefit applications dropped 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted 330,000. That's the lowest since January 2008.

The euro rose to $1.3367 in afternoon trading from $1.3321 late Wednesday.

The British pound fell to $1.5782 from $1.5843.

The dollar rose to 89.88 Japanese yen from 88.66 Japanese yen.

The dollar fell to 0.9288 Swiss franc from 0.9296 Swiss franc.
