TEXAS SHOWDOWN: Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is accusing of Google stonewalling in a nearly two-year-investigation into whether the company has been abusing its dominance in Internet search to stifle competition and drive up online advertising prices.
THE ISSUE: The dispute revolves around more than 14,500 internal documents that Google has refused to turn over. Google contends the records are legally protected communications between its lawyers and company employees. Abbott says he believes Google is improperly concealing potentially damaging evidence.
THE PROPOSED REMEDY: Abbott is seeking a court order that would force Google Inc. to hand over more of the requested material.
