WISE COUNTY - The Wise County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a murder out in the country.
Residents on County Road 3332 heard gunshots, but that’s not unusual. But then they smelled an odor.
“A strong odor of something," said Sheriff David Walker. "They didn't know what it was."
After a couple of days, they called the sheriff.
When Walker's deputies arrived, they knocked on the door, but no one answered. They, too smelled an odor. So they got a search warrant and called in the SWAT team.
Walker said they found Mark Schomburg and a 15-year-old boy hiding in the attic. He also said they found a blood trail leading from the home to a shed.
A woman’s body was wrapped in a blue tarp.
They are still trying to figure out who she is, and also determining why the 15-year-old was in the house. He is not related to either the victim or Schomburg, who's now been charged with the murder.
“We are not real sure what the 15-year-old was doing out here," Walker said. "Obviously [it's] a concern to us whether he knew about the homicide or not."
Police say they have been called out to the home before, but never for anything violent.
They have now called in the Texas Rangers to help them figure out what happened.
