RICHARDSON –– Police said a woman who was killed Monday morning while attempting to evade police was struck by a bullet fired by an officer.

The chase began Monday morning when an officer attempted to pull over 31-year-old Emily Krumrei of Frisco.

According to Sgt. Kevin Perlich, a spokesman with the Richardson Police Department, Krumrei continued to drive toward Central Expressway on Dumont Drive despite obvious attempts by police to get her to stop.

Arch McKinnon, a witness working at the nearby AutoFlex Leasing, said he saw an officer stand in the middle of the road and plea with the driver to stop.

"[The officer] yelled 'stop' five or six times," he said.

McKinnon said Krumrei continued to drive towards the officer, who stepped to the side as the vehicle neared and fired the shot.

"The officer was crouched down in a position like a baseball player and shouted, 'Stop! Stop!'" McKinnon said. "She seemed like she was going to stop, but she accelerated."

Perlich said the officer was nearly hit by the suspect's Lexus and fired one round at the fleeing vehicle. Richardson police later revealed the bullet struck Krumrei, who lost control of the car while turning onto the Central Expressway service road, where she crashed into a guard rail.

Krumrei was transported to Medical City and was later pronounced dead, Perlich said. The officer was reported to be OK.

Krumrei had two outstanding felony narcotics warrants and a prior charge of evading arrest, according to Richardson police. Her boyfriend told News 8 Krumrei was on her way to work at a law firm where she worked part-time Monday, and he didn't know why she ran.

Krumrei graduated from Ursuline Academy in Dallas as Emily Josephine Bristol. The mother of two has a mother and brother in North Texas.

Krumrei's boyfriend said the children are ages two and nine.

Police will wait for the medical examiner's report to determine if Krumrei was killed by the bullet or died from injuries sustained in the crash.
