At Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, funeral home owner and West volunteer firefighter Robert "Robby" Payne is out of the intensive care unit.

Payne responded to the fire at the West Fertilizer Company last Wednesday and was 30 yards away when it exploded.

He suffered lacerations, burns and broken bones.

He lost his home, too.

The Payne famliy has owned the Aderhold Funeral Home in West for 50 years. They are arranging funerals for 10 of the 14 victims.
