DALLAS - A man and a woman, both in their 20s, are dead following an accident in Dallas overnight.

Hector Cantu, 22, and Annette Aldape, 27, died at the scene in the 3100 block of South Westmoreland Road, police said.

The car they were traveling in spun over a bridge and landed upside down in a creek, 20 feet below.

Police say the driver had likely been drinking and was speeding at the time of the accident.

Police also say the driver may have been racing with other cars.

"Not necessarily street racing, but there may have been some racing. That's what one of the witnesses said but that's uncorroborated at this point. Speed and alcohol appear to be a factor," said Lt. Miguel Sarmiento from Dallas police.

The southbound lanes of Westmoreland Road opened early Friday morning.

Crews removed the battered car from the creek.
