DALLAS — Two off-duty Dallas police officers were injured early Sunday morning as they tried to break up a deadly fight in Oak Cliff.
A police spokesman said Adolph Junior Menjivar, 31, was involved in a traffic disturbance outside the 2 One 6 Lounge in the 600 block of West Jefferson Boulevard around 2 a.m.
Witnesses said Menjivar got out of his vehicle armed with a folding knife and stabbed a man who was sitting in another car multiple times.
Fernando Lopez was later pronounced dead at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
Two uniformed Dallas police officers working off-duty heard the disturbance and tried to break it up when they and another witness were allegedly attacked by Menjivar before he could be subdued.
The unnamed officers received what were described as non-life threatening injuries; the witness who tried to help was treated at the scene.
Police said Menjivar faces a range of charges, including murder, aggravated assault of a public servant, and aggravated assault.
The Sunday morning incident happened just three blocks from an Oak Cliff barbershop where the proprietor was shot and killed on Friday afternoon. A fired employee was arrested in that case.
