Two small earthquakes rattled Ellis County early Sunday, followed by a stronger tremor at midafternoon.

The most recent quake, a 2.7 magnitude event,  hit at 3:07 p.m. about two miles south of Midlothian off Hilltop Road.

The first struck at 4:35 a.m. in Waxahachie, recorded at 2.4 magnitude. It was centered along Ovilla Road, just northwest of the intersection of Interstate 35E and Highway 287.

A 2.5 quake followed at 6:56 a.m. near Glenn Heights, just south of the Dallas County line in the Stone Creek subdivison along Hampton Road.

The U.S. Geological Survey said all three quakes were measured at a depth of about 3 miles under the surface.

There were no reports of damage.
