Enough people say they want to get rid of alcohol-free areas in Dallas for the city to call an election.
On Wednesday night, the city secretary presented the outcome of a wet/dry petition drive, and confirmed there are more than the required number of valid signatures to move forward.
Nearly 69,000 signatures were necessary to call the election; more than 100,000 names were turned in.
The City Council passed the measure to call an election, although some Council members expressed their concern about new alcohol sales, including fears that crime will increase.
The election will be this November.
