RICHARDSON — Richardson police are looking for a murder suspect who killed a beloved father and husband.

Connie Cohen thought it was odd when no one showed up at school Friday to pick up her son's eight-year-old friend. "The son had not been picked up from school," she said. "He used my cell to call his father several times."

But the child's father never answered.

Eventually, police went to check on Jimmy Donawho at his apartment in the 900 block of St. Paul Drive. They found Donawho had been stabbed to death.

Investigators said he fought for his life, and it's possible that he injured his assailant.

"The suspect may show signs of having been involved in a struggle, including cuts to his hands and arms," Richardson police said in a written statement.

Friends and neighbors said Donawho was a kind man. "He's a nice guy," Cohen said. "He seemed like a really good man. He loved his kids; he loved his family."

The 63-year-old adopted two children. One of them is an adult; the other is only eight years old.

What makes this story even more tragic is that Donawho's wife is in a nursing home in bad health.

Connie Cohen gets choked up just thinking about the couples' eight-year-old son, who sat at school thinking his dad was going to pick him up.

"Nobody needs to go through this, especially somebody at that age," Cohen said.

Police said they have no suspects and aren't sure why Donawho was killed. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call Richardson police at 972-744-4801.
