SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — One man died and another two were wounded during a shooting at a massive public party on Surfside Beach Saturday evening, according to police.
Derrick Milam, 25, has been confirmed dead by investigators, while two more wounded were sent to nearby hospitals.
Milam was struck in the neck with a bullet and died at the scene.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Brazoria County Sheriff Charles Wagner. No arrests had been made by 11 p.m. Saturday night.
The event, known as the "Texas Beach Party," began at noon Saturday and was advertised as a "Bring Your Own Everything" party, with volleyball, beer pong, flag football and a wet T-shirt contest.
News of the unauthorized festivities spread through social media and was advertised as drawing in more than 3,000 guests.
