A female student at a Connecticut high school is in critical condition Friday after a male student allegedly stabbed her at school because she would not go with him to the junior prom, the Connecticut Post reports.
Jonathan Law high school in Milford, Conn., was placed on lock down for two hours after the 7 a.m. incident, the newspaper says.
The victim, a junior, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital. The newspaper quotes an unidentified source as saying she was slashed in the throat and is in critical condition.
The victim was found in a stairwell, WFSB-TV reports.
Milford police confirmed the stabbing, but would not discuss the circumstances. Students say that the attacker, after being spurned over the prom invitation, allegedly tried to strangle the girl, then pushed her down the stairs before stabbing her in the throat, Connecticut News 12 reports.
It was not immediately clear if the prom would be held as scheduled at a Four Seasons banquet hall in Stratford.
