Rain, temperatures as low as 39 and fog were expected in parts of Texas on Monday.

As showers have shifted well to the east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, partly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s are expected Monday afternoon.

In Fort Worth, look for partly sunny skies with a high near 55. The overnight low will be around 39.

But by 6 p.m. Monday, as heavy rains pour in South Texas, showers will may transition into snow in El Paso and other areas of West Texas. The rain shield will spread to the Dallas-Fort Worth area late in the day Tuesday, meaning some areas west of D-FW may see wet snowflakes.

In Houston, National Weather Service forecasters called for a 90 percent chance of rain with thunderstorms before noon. The high should be near 58 with wind gusts as high as 20 mph. There's a 50 percent chance of showers at night with a low around 47.

In Austin, forecasters gave a 40 percent chance of rain with a high near 53. Wind gusts were expected to be as high as 20 mph. At night, look for a 50 percent chance of rain with a low around 42.

In Brownsville, areas of fog were expected along with thunderstorms. Temperatures were predicted to fall to around 60 by 5 p.m. At night, the forecast called for a 70 percent chance of rain with a low around 49.
