MANSFIELD — The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said an estranged wife shot an off-duty Irving police officer in a domestic dispute incident at a rural home in the Mansfield area before killing herself at a different location.
According to Sgt. Clint Harwell, 41-year-old Officer Brandon Spencer was shot by 41-year-old Tiffany Spencer, 41, at the home off Retta Mansfield Road. Harwell said Mr. Spencer's injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening.
His estranged wife was later found dead inside a four-door sedan outside a home in the 6100 block of CR 608 in Johnson County. Harwell said she died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Mr. Spencer has worked with Irving police for 18 years and was currently assigned to the Investigative Services bureau, said John Argumaniz, a spokesman for the department.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and yelling Tuesday night.
"It was very hectic," said David Robison, 20.
Robison and his family were at their home, located across the street from Mr. Spencer's residence, when they heard a loud knocking at the door.
"He was just banging on the door asking us to help him," he said.
The neighbor told News 8 Mr. Spencer had two wounds.
Mrs. Spencer, a local attorney, had two children, including one she shared with Mr. Spencer.
