Police shooting
IRVING — An investigation is under way after an Irving police officer shot and killed a man early Saturday morning.
Police spokesman David Tull said officers were responding to complaints about gunshots being fired in the 2700 block of West 18th Street when they spotted 49-year-old Orlando Rodriguez with what appeared to be a BB rifle.
Tull said officers commanded Rodriguez to drop the weapon; instead, he raised it toward police, who opened fire.
Rodriguez was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he later died.
According to investigators, Rodriguez had been staying with a relative and had gone outside to investigate noises before he was shot.
