HIGHLAND VILLAGE — Part of FM 2499 was reopened to traffic Sunday evening as firefighters worked to control a stubborn grass fire.
The exact size of the fire wasn't known, but powerful winds were enough of a concern that Highland Village officials asked for help from a number of surrounding Denton County fire departments.
The fire started mid-afternoon in a dry creek bed that feeds into Lewisville Lake.
Police shut off access to the area, diverting traffic onto Orchid Hill Lane.
Access to the area was difficult, and a number of firefighters had to move deep into private properties to fight the flames.
No evacuations were ordered, and by late afternoon, crews were bringing the situation under control.
