Norma Gonzales, a member of the Irving school board, has been arrested and charged with shoplifting.

Police said she tried to leave an Irving Walmart store with $184 worth of merchandise in her purse.

Gonzales is free on bond.

This is her first year on the school board. She won the seat while running unopposed after being fired as a school secretary.
