DALLAS — The Inwood Road exit on northbound Interstate 35E in Dallas was closed to traffic Wednesday evening after a massive water main ruptured around 5:30 p.m.

The access road in front of Friendly Chevrolet was under water. Dallas Water Utilities blamed the flooding on the failure of a 36-inch water main.

"The pipeline has been throttled and currently remains 85 percent closed," said City of Dallas spokesman Frank Librio three hours after the rupture.

Librio said while some utility customers in the area may encounter low water pressure, that should be remedied once the problem is fully isolated.

A Dallas Fire-Rescue truck and another vehicle were reported to be stuck in the high water.

Motorists trying to get a look slowed traffic in both directions on I-35E.

Librio said the cause of the rupture was under investigation, and that the northbound service road will remain shut down until repairs can be made.
