FRISCO — An eight-year-old girl died Saturday after being injured in a bicycle accident on a hike-and-bike trail in Frisco.

A spokesman for the city said the accident was reported shortly after 9 a.m. at Northwest Community Park, north of Lone Star High School.

A CareFlite medical helicopter transported the injured child to Children's Medical Center in Dallas, where she was pronounced dead.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's office on Sunday identified the victim as Kaylee Kampschroeder of Krugerville. There was no ruling on the cause of her death.

Her father told News 8 that he was with Kaylee and one of her friends when her wheel got caught and she landed badly, resulting in internal injuries.

Kaylee was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, a Frisco spokesperson said.

The Frisco Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident on the Northwest Community Park Trail, which opened in October of last year, according to its website.

The trail was closed to cyclists and hikers on Sunday morning.
