ARLINGTON - General Motors announced Friday it will add a third shift for production at its Arlington plant early next year.
GM expects to add about 800 jobs.
The president of UAW Local 276 told News 8 that many of the jobs will be filled by GM workers transferring from other plants, but he expects some new hires as well.
In recent months, GM has announced about a half-billion dollars in upgrades to the Arlington plant, which is now the only one making full-size GM SUV's.
“It is great news that GM will soon be adding hundreds of people to its payroll in Arlington," said Rep. Joe Barton (R-Arlington/Ennis). "This announcement is tribute to the great worth ethic and dedication of the employees and management at that plant. They make quality products in an efficient way. This is also a testament to the reemergence of GM as a power in the auto industry.”
