Cleburne police say a five-year-old girl is in stable condition after being shot in the abdomen on Friday evening.

The child — whose name was not released — was rushed to a Fort Worth hospital by helicopter ambulance after the shooting at 6:50 p.m. at a residence in the 600 block of North Robinson Street.

Investigators said the girl suffered a wound to her abdomen, and that the incident appears to be the result of an accident. An adult member of the household was interviewed in connection with the shooting, but there have been no arrests.

A police spokesperson said the case will be referred to the district attorney's office for review.
