DALLAS - A fire that grew to five alarms at a Dallas apartment complex Thursday morning destroyed 24 units.
The fire broke out Thursday morning at the Courtney Place Apartments in the 3200 block of Chapel Creek in Dallas. The first emergency calls came in around 7:20 a.m. Thursday.
Residents in the complex were evacuated as black smoke billowed into the air high above the complex.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze at about 11 a.m. According to an incident report, the fire caused an estimated $500,000 in structural damage and $100,000 in content loss.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Red Cross was at the scene assisting displaced residents. They estimated about 70 people would need assistance.
The SVdP Thrift Store at 3052 W. Northwest Highway is holding a drive for clothing for the victims. The donation drive thru will be open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
No one was reported injured.
