FORT WORTH - A Fort Worth officer was arrested Wednesday for allegedly possessing marijuana while on duty and in uniform.
Police said a citizen called in a tip Monday, and Officer Wesley Lamb was arrested 48 hours later. After receiving the tip that Lamb was smoking marijuana on the job, Fort Worth police launched an investigation that included a helicopter and undercover surveillance.
Marijuana was found in Lamb's home and personal car, police said. Authorities said their investigation also found that Lamb was in possession of evidence he was supposed to take to the police property room.
Chief Jeffrey Halstead said at a news conference Wednesday that he will use Lamb's case to show other officers what happens when an officer disrespects the uniform.
"To those very, very select few who think you can stand against policy, that you can violate the public's trust, I will find you and I will fire you," Halstead said.
The chief also said he will reorganize the department from top to bottom for better supervision of officers because of the Lamb case and last week's case in which an off-duty officer was allegedly under the influence when he drove his pickup truck into a home
Lamb has been on the force since 2002.
