Bedford demolition

BEDFORD — The mayor of Bedford took a hands-on approach as the city gets rid of a major eyesore dating back to 1984.

Mayor Jim Griffin put on a hard hat, climbed into the cab of an excavation rig, and helped tear down the former CI Host building just a few feet from Highway 183 at Central Drive.

Griffin said the demolition symbolizes recent efforts to attract new businesses in light of the North Tarrant Express highway expansion.

"I think from a citizen's point of view, it was a pretty ugly structure on the corner on one of our main thoroughfares of our city," Griffin said. "Everybody's excited; that's why you have a big crowd out here today."

A neighboring Cheddar's restaurant initiated the demolition plan. It will use the space for additional parking.
